Aristotle Onassis started Janusz Sikora in property management. It took place in 1974 when Janusz was working as a handyman at Beth Israel Hospital and met Onassis, who was impressed by his diligence and desire and offered him a job as head of plant management at then recently opened Olympic Towers. Janusz, who is now an Executive Vice President at Matthew Adam Properties, has been working in real estate ever since.
Having learned about buildings literally fromthe ground up, as his job at Beth Israel was in the boiler room, Janusz is an account representative who really understands all aspects of the physical plant. If there’s a problem, Janusz can spot it immediately. Often he recognizes something amiss before a problem surfaces. “I’m very interested in the mechanical aspects of the building,” he says. “For me, the beauty of a building is in the guts, not the architecture.”
Since 1979, he has managed a variety of properties including brownstones, high-risers, and lofts.
Janusz studied law and engineering at the University of Krakow in Poland and moved to the United States 30 years ago. He completed New York University’s Real Estate program. Janusz is a Registered Apartment Manager (RAM), and received the Manager of the Year Award from the Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York (ABO).
